Quick Re-Cap of Events Prior to Bromont!

I must apologize for my lack of blogging! With the PDF Facebook page it’s so quick and easy to update everyone during the shows and then sometimes I find it hard to sit down and write a full blog afterwards.

Things have been especially busy this spring and Benita’s started a Business class at UVA so she’s busy busy busy! I’ve been fully focused on getting the horses to Bromont and doing our best there and now that we can put that show behind us I feel like I can focus on everything else that I need to.

A quick re-cap on Jersey Fresh:

I took Sammy Jo and Colin to do the CIC2* at Jersey as a prep for Bromont. Both did good Dressage tests scoring in the 40’s and Sammy had 1 rail down while Colin show jumped double clear. The cross country was bold and with plenty of technical questions but the ground was very, very hard. Jersey did their best to aggravate the ground and make it as good as it could be but it was still very firm. Sammy was out first and she ran a super round, I was so pleased with her! Colin ran all the way until the second to last combination and, though he was jumping well and answering all the questions, as the course went on he just seemed a little pre-occupied or not focused.bFinally, at the last water he’d had enough and we called it a day after he made it clear that he didn’t want to keep going. This is so unlike him that I immediately suspected something was bothering him and I was right. For whatever reason his feet had become very sore and that was obviously the reason that he didn’t want to keep going. Some time off, some pads and he re-routed to VAHT and loped around the Intermediate there like a star and firmly put Jersey in the rear-view. He’s such an honest guy and hasn’t ever had many issues so as he goes up the level we are learning more about him.

As a result of his time off I decided to back off and move him into the CIC2* at Bromont which they were running for the first time this year. He’s still young and it would be a great experience for him without the added stress of a longer cross country.

My Royal Cooley also had his final pre-Bromont outing at VAHT in the preliminary, and both Benita’s mares finished really well there in the preliminary as well in 7th and 9th place.

The 3 Training level boys all jumped clear cross country rounds and scored in the 20’s in dressage! Cedric finished in 5th and Logan in 9th in their competitive division.

Then in was on to Bromont!
